Unseeing- STILL LIFE/ WALLPAPER SERIES 2017

This series illustrates a similar allegory to British author China Miéville's story The City and the City, a metaphor for modern life in which our habits of "unseeing" allow us to ignore that which does not directly affect our familiar lives. Every day we are presented with news stories on our media platforms, whatever the atrocities; we can choose to switch off and train ourselves to ‘unsee’ what is happening.  This series illustrates "Willful Innocence" that when we choose to ignore devastating current events happening around us, atrocities such as wars continue to manifest and be part of our landscape.

“….at first glance, Still life/wallpaper painting series seem simply beautiful, but upon closer examination, they each speak to a more expansive story. I am interested in the ways we ignore devastating events by claiming innocence, and how the effects of war are still present and vibrating throughout our landscapes, both physical and mental.
